How it's made
A small publishing studio, run from a home office.
Owly Creative Studio is one person, one Mac, and a stack of open-source tools. Nothing is sent to the cloud. The books here are short, illustrated, and free to read.
Why a Private Local LLM
Children's stories are personal. Voices, names, and tiny details belong to the family, not to a logging endpoint. Running a language model entirely on the author's home computer means no prompts leave the room — and the studio can iterate as much as it wants without a metered bill.
The Three Tiers
Children's — gentle picture books for read-aloud time. Teen — slightly older, a bit moodier. Adult is coming soon, with a different aesthetic preset.
What Stays Human
The premise, the aesthetic choice, the cloned voice, and the final approval are all the author's. The model drafts; the human edits dialogue, pacing, and emotional beats by hand. Nothing ships without being read out loud first.
The Pipeline
idea → JSON manuscript → ComfyUI illustrations
→ F5-TTS narration
→ ffmpeg video
→ publishOpen Tooling
The whole stack is open. The author maintains an Owly Author Guide for anyone who wants to try the same workflow at home.
